There is a phenomenon where the worlds of science and romance intersect. The science community has avoided encroaching on Cupid's territory but they could no longer ignore a devastating and incurable ailment affecting young men between the ages of 18 and 30.
It is a quantifiable and tangible pattern in which "subject A" (let's say a stocky short man from Seattle, for example) feels a tremendous amount of unfounded and some would say unnecessary affection and attachment to "subject B" (let's say a very attractive and funny girl who is cool and pretty and stuff). Scientists call this "being down the wormhole" and it involves things like writing endlessly in diaries, staring off into space thinking about subject B, having dreams where you impregnate subject B, etc. etc. Researchers aren't sure what causes this. Is it strictly libido related? Is it because of subject A's relative lack of self confidence? Why does it affect so many young men? We may never know.
Modern science is working on a cure for being down the wormhole and I hope one day they can tame the white dragon.
